Hospice Holds Next Volunteer Training Class Starting May 12th

Hospice of Kitsap County is offering a training course for those who have a desire to work with hospice patients and their families. The next training class starts Monday, May 12th at 9 am. in the Hospice of Kitsap County office at 3100 Bucklin Hill Road, suite 205 in Silverdale.   Classes are held each Monday and Thursday from 9am to 4pm for three consecutive weeks.  This 30 hour training will include hospice philosophy of care, the interdisciplinary team concept, patient care and comfort issues, communication skills, and dealing with grief and loss issues.

Hospice volunteers play an important role in the services provided by Hospice of Kitsap County. They typically spend two to four hours a week providing support and care to hospice patients and their families. Medical experience is not required to become a hospice volunteer. Volunteers are an agent of encouragement to patients who are facing the final journey of their lives. Volunteers can also provide caregivers or family members time for themselves.

The Hospice of Kitsap County volunteer training program ensures that each volunteer is well informed and adequately prepared for their role. Hospice of Kitsap County is a non-profit hospice committed to enhancing the physical, mental, and spiritual health of the communities we serve. Please contact Christy Cathcart, Director of Volunteer Services at (360) 698-4611 for more information, or to register for the next training class.

Volunteers Needed For New Hospice Care Center

Hospice of Kitsap County is looking for some dedicated volunteers to give of their time and talents to make a difference in our community.  Hospice volunteers are integral members of the hospice team.  These special individuals work side by side with hospice professionals.  Currently, we are seeking volunteers to support the Hospice Care Center staff with reception, data entry, and light office duties.  Phone and computer experience are helpful, but not necessary.  We are also looking for volunteers to assist with housekeeping, gardening, and the cookie brigade.

If you are interested in these opportunities, or if you have a special talent to share with the patients and families at the Hospice Care Center, please call Christy Cathcart at Hospice of Kitsap County (360) 698-4611.

Board of Trustees

Since its incorporation as a nonprofit organization, Hospice of Kitsap County has been governed by a volunteer board of trustees who chart the long-range course of the organization. Board members represent diverse backgrounds and professional skills, but they share a dedication to our community's access to quality end-of-life care. The Board of Trustees are guided by Hospice of Kitsap County's purposes to provide a program of care for the terminally ill and their families, through an interdisciplinary team approach, providing medical and nursing care, social services, and emotional and spiritual support, including bereavement as needed, and promote public education about the principles of the Hospice of Kitsap County concept, and the services of the Hospice of Kitsap County program.

If you would like to nominate yourself, or someone you know for a position on the Board, please fill out the nomination form and mail it to: Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383 Attn: Jim Pledger Nomination Form
